If you don't know how to register a domain name, we can arrange domain names for you and suggest different domain name options.
Have a look at our Domain Name Information page to find out some vital information before you register your domain names.
When you select a registrar, make sure you keep a note of the domain name login details - username and password for your domain name. Please check if you are allowed to make changes to the Domain Name Server (DNS) settings. A good registrar will give you a comprehensive control panel that allows you to set up web forwarding, email forwarding, domain name locking, and DNS changes for example. There are registrars out there who will charge for simple changes like this. Try to avoid them. In general, moving a domain name from one registrar to another should be straightforward, but it never is. So make sure at the start you chose one that allows you or your web designer to look after your domain name. A good registar is 123-reg for example. They give you access to a comprehensive control panel and their support is pretty good too.
How do I register a domain name?
Registration of a domain name is relatively straightforward.
- Open the website of the registrar who you want to register the domain name with (for example 123-reg). The registrar will register them domain name in your name and on your behalf. A domain name registrar is a company that sells and manages domain names. A registrar usually provides a login page for you to login and administer your domain name.
- On the registrar's website, you will usually find a search box that allows you to enter your desired domain name, for example "creatweb". All you need to do is click the "search" button to find out if your desired domain name is still available. After a few seconds, a new page will come up containing a list with available / unavailable domain names - ie. domain names that contain the word you entered in the domain name search field.
- If your desired domain name is still available, you can secure your domain name by buying it from the registrar. When you buy a domain name, you are the legal owner of this domain name, but the registrar will look after it - it's like having a bank account with a bank. It's your account, but the bank looks after it.
- Usually, you will have to create an account with the registrar. You will receive a username and a password for your account. Usually, you can register several domain names for one account. Please read the page about domain name considerations in your FAQ area before you go ahead.
