Guestbooks are not "out"
28 October 2004
Some people might think that guestbooks are so "1995" when people wanted to leave something behind after they visited a website. They are still there and are used more than ever!
Guestbooks can be considered as Testimonial pages where the client/visitor can actually give feedback about either the service or information provided, or about the website they have just visited.
Ebay's feedback system can be considered a testimonial page for every Ebay user.
Two excellent examples of very active guestbooks/ testimonial pages can be found here:
Testimonial Page of creative-camera.co.uk
Guestbook of Dumfries Camera Club
On the creative-camera website, newly-wedd couples can leave comments about their own photographs that are displayed on the website or about the service that has been provided by the photographers; whereas random visitors have left many comments in the Dumfries Camera Club guestbook about the website and the photo galleries.
So guestbooks are not "tacky", they are alive and can give a more up-to-date insight into the services / information provided.
